Damage evolution in particulate composite materials

چکیده

Damage evolution in heterogeneous solids is modeled using transformation field analysis and imperfect interface model. Stress changes caused by local debonding are simulated by residual stresses generated by equivalent transformation strains or eigenstrains. Decohesion and both overall and local stress and strain rates are derived from thermodynamics of irreversible processes, which provide an excellent framework for the development of constitutive equations. Both tangent and unloading secant stiffness tensors are found along any prescribed mechanical loading path. Numerical simulation of debonding evolution in glass/elastomer composites is compared with experimental data and provides good agreement between the model and experiments. 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Fabrication of TiC particulate reinforced Ni-50Fe super alloy matrix composite powder by mechanical alloying

Mechanical alloying is a powder metallurgy processing technique involving cold welding, fracturing, and rewelding of powder particles in a high-energy ball mill. In this work, NiFe-TiC composite powders were prepared by mechanical alloying process using planetary high-energy ball mill. The effect of TiC addition by weight percent on the NiFe solid solution formation, grain size, lattice paramet...

Modeling of Hygrothermal Damage of Composite Materials

Composite materials have been used extensively in various applications, such as mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, and aviation thanks to their interesting mechanical properties. However, a substantial drawback in the use of such composite materials is that they absorb a significant amount of moisture when exposed to severe hygrothermal conditions. This factor dramatically affects t...

Analysis of Crack-tip Field of Particulate-Reinforced Composites Taking Account of Particle Size Effect and Debonding Damage

This paper deals with an analysis of a crack-tip field of particulate-reinforced composites which can describe the evolution of debonding damage, matrix plasticity and particle size effect on deformation and damage. Numerical analyses were carried out on a crack-tip field in elastic-plastic matrix composites reinforced with elastic particles by using a finite element method developed based on a...

Scattering loss in electro – optic particulate composite materials

The effective permittivity dyadic of a composite material containing particulate constituent materials with one constituent having the ability to display the Pockels effect is computed, using an extended version of the strong–permittivity–fluctuation theory which takes account of both the distributional statistics of the constituent particles and their sizes. Scattering loss, thereby incorporat...
